COURSE

Beginners Course

Every Spring we hold a six-week Beginner's Course usually starting at our indoor venues at Redruth St John Ambulance Hall and/or at Pool School sports hall, generally at the end of March/beginning of April.

Please note that, due to the rules of our National Governing Body; GNAS, it is not possible to attend more than six beginners sessions in any year without joining the Club.

The sport of archery does not require excessive strength so much as skill and control. However, you need plenty of clearance for the bowstring around the arms and shoulders. So, please try to wear thin snug-fitting upper clothing (several layers, if necessary) wherever possible.

Week One

Introduction and welcome to the club. Safety Rules & etiquette. Warm up and cool down procedure. Fitting out each person with suitable equipment. Basic shooting technique and practice shooting at a bare target from approximately eight to ten yards.

Week Two

Learn a little about equipment. Different aspects of archery & types of bow. Practice shooting at a target face from approximately eight to ten yards.

Week Three

Introduction to scoring and methods. How to aim with a sight. Practice shooting and scoring from ten yards. Finding your 'form'.

Week Four

Selecting equipment & costs. Practice shooting from further away. Reinforcing shooting technique, etiquette, safety and scoring.

Week Five

Bow tuning. Details of joining the Club. Shooting rounds. Practice shooting from further away. Reinforcing shooting technique, etiquette, safety and scoring.

Week Six

Joining the Club. Entering tournaments & clothing. Practice shooting outdoors at longer distances and scoring. Discuss equipment needs with those wishing to join the club.

Please note the change of venue for Week Six: Redruth Archers Field on the New Portreath Road (next to the Gold Centre).

We anticipate that after six weeks you should be able to shoot with our regular club members who will be able to help and advise you. Spare club equipment may be made available for a short period of time (at a small fee) to those who join the club to enable them to shoot whilst deciding on their personal equipment. But remember, don't buy without advice from experienced club members, preferably a Coach.

Improvers

After joining the Club, we also offer FREE Improvers sessions (for 5 or 6 weeks), where our Coaches and experienced club archers will be available to give advice and asistance (on all manner of archery-related topics!).
