Club FITA Tournament

On the 29th of July Redruth Archers held their yearly FITA tournament on the Portreath Road field.

Our thanks go to all those helpers on the day who make our tournaments such a success. Special mention must be made of Jenny, who after only her second archery lesson with us brought a huge cake as her contribution to the day - and apologised that she could not be there in person. You must join us Jenny.

Results will be on-line soon.

'Have a go' days

As you know, the Club regularly raises money from outside sources to keep members' sub as friendly as possible. This is done by means of 'Have-a-go's' to give others a taste of our sport and hopefully inspire them enough to join us.

The sessions are usually held on our field so there is no transportation involved, although a few are held at outside venues.

These dates often come at short notice, so it is dificult to publish a list in advance, but details are posted up in the Portakabin beforehand.

There are three 'aways' arranged during August:

  • Penzance Junior School on the 6th August
  • Penzance Junior School on the 13th August
  • Penzance Humphrey Davey School on the 20th August
  • Not the Stithians Show on the 19th September

Our thanks go to all those who have given their support to the eight this year so far - you know who you are

You have raised £242 so far this year (to be updated)!

Redruth Archers Club Championships

The Club Championships this year will be held on the 30th of September on the Club field.

This is when we find out who the champion will be and who is the best of their class, with hidden prizes, random pairs, trophies etc. and a barbeque if weather permits

The round, as always, is a Windsor, i.e. 3 doz arrows at 60 yds, 3 doz at 50 yds and 3 doz at 40 yds. Although shorter variations are also shot for the benefit of the juniors or those of you that can't reach the longer distances.

As the round is handicapped on the earlier ends absoltely everybody stands a chance of winning the handicap trophy.

D.C.A.S. Summer League 2001

Many thanks to all archers - Seniors and Juniors, who have been shooting the Warwick rounds and putting their scores in for the Summer League.

We are doing quite well at the moment, but could always do with more scores.

Come along on Thursday evenings and shoot a Long or Short Warwick round (depending on your bow type and ability), then leave the scores in the box provided in the Club garage.

If you have never shot a round before, don't be afraid, do ask a senior member to help.

No need to be a Robin Hood or a Maid Marion, if you can shoot 50 yds (seniors) or 40 yds (juniors) give it a go.

One wheel short of a trailer

Please be on the look-out for a 13" wheel (Ford Escort or similar) as a spare for the Club's trailer.

Mower needed

We are looking for a triple-gang mower set suitable for twing behaind a car to assit in grass cutting, so please keep an eye open in the local second-hand advert columns.

Who's the boss!

Just to remind you that the bosses in the garage are colour-coded for your convenience. The edges of the bosses are coloured as follows:

None Compound bows
White Recurve bows
Red Longbows

If you choose the appropriate colour for yourself you should not be troubled by bouncers or pass-throughs.

The 100 Club

The 100 Club is still going on apace, with half the money taken given out in three prizes each month.

June winnners:

  • Lana Popperwell (1st)
  • Wendy Wheeler (2nd)
  • Roger Simpson (3rd)

July winnners:

  • Mr. R.G. Smith (1st)
  • Rita Chegwidden (2nd)
  • Margaret Simpson (3rd)

Numbers are generally available 'on the night' (Wednesdays) if you happen to be there, but the best and most reliable way is to make out a standing order with your bank. Go on! It's only £1 a month and some vacancies have recently become available.

Subs are due

Yes it's that time of year again! Woe, woe and thrice woe!

Do go and pay Barbara a visit, she'd love to see you. but don't forget to bring your money

As usual, it's £50 for the big ones and £10 for the tackers

All due on the 1st of July, and the deadline is mid August.
