Here we are again, well into the new
millennium
This is the time when you find that weakening your bow, moving
the clicker forward and using fat arrows together with low arm
positioning all through winter leaves you with, strangely enough,
a lousy sight mark at maximum distance. That's if you've got one
at all.
Shortly we will all be out there winding up the poundage and
doing everything we can to reach that elusive 100 or 80 yards with
a reasonable margin of comfort, and getting a whole new set of
sight marks for all the distances.
As usual, the beginners course started at the end of March in
the St. John's Ambulance Hall, with the first five weeks being
held there, and the last and sixth week held on our club field.
This, with all your help is where we give back some of the help we
recieved in the past by handing the knowledge on to those
beginners who "always wanted to try archery" (as they say). From
then on we continue to introduce them to our sport all through the
Summer until the end of August on Wednesday evenings.
Please help them by letting them have this time to themselves.
We have all the other days for ourselves.
Help Needed
Help is needed on a 'Make and Mend' day on Sunday 7th April as
well as on the usual pre-tournament weeks.
You're Going to be Busy!
With the season about to start the have-a-goes are rolling in,
starting with the 'Spring Awakening' in the Bamboo Gardens at
Mawnan Smith on Monday 1st April, where we will let the public
have a go (6 arrows for £1).
Following that, we will entertain the St. Day and Illogan Girl
Guides on our field, Mondays the 8th and 15th April.
Later on we are doing the Mabe Shindig on Monday 3rd June. Odd,
isn't it? How they all seem to fall on a Monday.
These events are all fund raisers for the Club, which all
members should try to attend in order to keep subs as low as
possible

Why doesn't your number ever come up?Perhaps you haven't
got one! You will never win if you don't have a number. See
Barbara (there's only one Barbara) and she will set up a standing
order for you at only £1 per month.
Don't Forget!
Don't forget to 'pass out' from your improvers' scheme if you
haven't already done so.
Target Days
Just a reminder that Club Target Days are Thurdays, Saturdays,
Sundays and any Bank Holidays. Only scores shot on those days can
be recorded for official handicap, classification or record
purposes, so don't even bother to leave scoresheets in the box if
they weren't shot on those days.
Also, times of shooting on target days are:
- 10:30am for 11:00am start
- 1:30pm for 2:00pm start
- 6:30pm for 7:00pm start
And please remember that it is up to all archers to place
targets and faces, so please don't leave it for someone else to
do.
Why Not Become an Archey Coach?
If you would like to pass on some of your skills to others the
best way to do this is to take an Assistant Coaches Course. You'll
learn all sorts of useful skills yourself, and this could then
lead on to becoming a Club or County Coach if you wish. Wendy
Wheeler the County's Coaching Organiser is currently running just
such a course at the moment so it's too late for this year, but
just let her know if you are interested and she will put you in
the next course.
Beginners Course
The Beginners Course is under way and this is your opportunity
to help those comming into our sport.
You can help by just being there to talk to them, advising
where possible and coaching them where you can
All Wednesdays are set aside especially for beginners and
improvers, with special restrictions placed on distances shot,
timing and number of arrows per end.
You can also help by not asking to shoot yourself (well you
know what I mean!).
Club Trophies
Have you got or do you know who has any of the Club's trophies?
Remind them that trophies are not keepsies and must be returned
each year for presentation at the next tournament. A number have
gone missing in recent years. This of course does not apply to the
usual medals or givaway plaques
Thanks
Thanks go to Gwen Skipper for her recent donation of a
microwave oven for our catering needs at tournaments
Lastly
The dates of all tournament fixtures, work days and fund
raisers are too many to list here, but are always displayed in the
garage. So please read them when you are checking off your target
fees.
