Second Indoor Shooting Venue

We now have a second indoor shooting venue at Penryn Sports College on Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm


Social Evening

This years social evening will be held at Country Skittles on Saturday 13th March 2004 The club will treat club members of Redruth Archers to one free game of bowling.

Ask Margaret for details.


Lottery Award

We have been awarded £40,000 from Sport England to buy the field and build the first stage of our project, a toilet block and storage area. Negotiations are under way to initialize this part of our project and we hope building will start later on in the year. Thanks must go to all those who have contributed to making this possible. We will be the first Archery Club in DCAS to own their own field.


Penwith Community Development Trust

We have been successful with our application to the Engage Small Grants for young people and have been awarded £1150. This is to purchase 10 Bows and 10 sets of Arrows for our junior club.


The dates for the rest of the indoor shooting sessions for Juniors will be:

24th March – cancelled (Senior Indoor Championships)

31st March – as normal

7th April – cancelled

14th April – as normal

21st April – as normal

28th April – as normal (this will be the last indoor session for this season)

5th May – Junior sessions move outdoors at our club field (please bring your own refreshments if required)

 

Those juniors who have achieved the scores for AAS Badges will be awarded shortly. Details of the scores required are on the notice board. So that Caroline can claim your badges for you please leave your completed score sheets in the black box folder in the garage.

Well done to all the juniors who have taken part in the GWAS Indoor Postal League: we will not receive the final results until early April.

GNAS runs a Junior July National Postal you will need to submit your best National round in your correct age group shot only in July.

The Junior National Championships will be held a bit closer to home this year at Andover on Sunday 4th July

The Grand Western Junior Championships will be at Burnham-on-Sea on Saturday 26th June entry forms to both events can be found in the folder in the garage.

One big event to look out for is the Junior Outdoor Target Archery World Championships as the UK play hosts this year at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in July: this event is expected to get a lot of media coverage!!

Senior Indoor Championships – this will be held at the St. John Ambulance Hall on Wednesday 24th March 2004 please note that this will be the last indoor session for seniors this season at the hall.


Margaret has kindly volunteered to be co‑ordinator for the DCAS outdoor postal league this year. This is for shooting the Warwick Rounds. These being a short round can easily be shot during an evening, for both seniors and juniors and count for handicap & classifications This starts in May – please place your completed score sheets in the black box folder in the garage. Details will be posted on the notice board.

Tournaments: we host five tournaments a year on our club field. YOUR HELP is always needed at these events. We do not supply refreshments at The Longbow Clout, Double/Single Pope Young and single two-way Longbow Western, however, we do need donations for the refreshments and raffle prizes at our record status Double American and FITA Star Tournaments.

Handicap & Classifications

Don’t forget to put completed scores sheets for Sally of any recognized and completed round in the black box folder (don’t worry Sally, Margaret & Caroline will worked out who has what).

Beginners’ course start on Wednesday 31st March 2004 indoors at the Ambulance Hall your help will be very much appreciated at these courses setting up etc.


DCAS Grand Day

DCAS kicks off the outdoor season with a Grand Day Tournament. You will find entry forms in the folder.


Our club is a member of Kerrier Sports Council: this gives us access to the courses they have on offer. (Often at discounted prices) Some of our members have already taken child protection and first aid for sport courses. Details of courses will be posted on the notice board.


Indoor Shooting will continue for all members at Penryn Sports College on Saturday afternoons, from 1pm to 4pm. Dates presently arranged are as follows:

Normal indoor shooting fees apply.

 On Saturday 3 April 2004, Paul Callaway will conduct a Coaching Workshop aimed at sorting your equipment out prior to the forthcoming outdoor season – nocking point, limb alignment, centre shot, nocks, strings, etc. All this, as well as having the opportunity to shoot up to 30 metres indoors to start building up your outdoor sightmarks.

 

Grant from Redruth Charity Trust

We have been successful in receiving a grant from Redruth Charity Trust for materials to make a permanent target. Geoff Gardener has kindly made this for us and will be available shortly for use on the field.

Redruth Archers take part each year in local activities promoting archery and raising funds for our club. Please help out where you can.

Club’s 30 year Anniversary in 2005

Next year is the clubs 30th Anniversary. We are looking of ways to celebrate this event. If you have any ideas please tell a Committee Member.

 

Club Outdoor Championships This will be held on Sunday 26th September and is open to all members of Redruth Archery Club. There is no entry fee, but bring 50p for the colour pot prize. Please note that so that all members can shoot we will not be providing refreshments, so bring a packed lunch.

AGM 3rd November approaching: Two positions which will be vacant this year.

Paul Callaway will not be seeking re‑election again this year as Child Protection Officer due to the recommendations from GNAS that this position should not be held by a coach.

Wendy Wheeler will be retiring this year from her position as Tournament Organiser; Wendy has been tournament organizer for Newquay and Redruth Archers for the past few years and I am sure she will be missed.

Starting Saturday 2nd October at Penryn Sports College. Start Time for both seniors & juniors 1 pm to 4 pm

It is also hoped that another evening will be available at Penryn Sports College during the week subject to availability and demand. Details to follow later.

Starting Wednesday 6th October at Redruth St. John Ambulance Hall.

Juniors 5.30 Start time Seniors 7 pm Start time.

Change of Indoor Shooting times

In order that our junior archers can take part in the DCAS Postal league it has been decided that on the 1st Wednesday in each month (5th January, 2nd February, 2nd March 2005), Senior Archers will not be able to arrive at the St. John Ambulance Hall before 7 pm.

Shooting will commence at 7.20 pm

Senior January Challenge

After its success last year, GNAS is running the January Challenge again: a postal shoot for senior archers based on the format of the November Challenge for junior archers. This is open to all archers, from the novice to the most experienced.
